Summer has arrived in Burnaby, and that means it’s time to get outdoors and enjoy all that Vancouver has to offer. However, if you’re looking for something to do outside the city, there are plenty of exciting day trips, all within two hours of Vancouver. Check out the top 3 summer day trips from Burnaby.
An hour and a half outside of Burnaby lies Squamish. This popular tourist destination was once a forestry and mining town, but now it offers plenty of attractions. Hike the famous Stawamus Chief Mountain or take a ride on the Sea to Sky Gondola, where you’ll be treated to impressive views of Mount Habrich, Sky Pilot, and Goat Ridge. Squamish is a must-visit destination in and of itself, but it also makes a great pitstop on the way to Whistler (more on that below).
Drive about 45 minutes past Squamish and you’ll find yourself in Whistler, BC. Known for being a global skiing mecca, Whistler makes for a great day trip no matter the time of year. In summer, the quaint alpine village is home to hiking and cycling trails, golf courses, and the Peak-to-Peak Gondola. Whether you’re looking for a day of adventure or leisure, Whistler is the perfect place to spend it.
No trip to Vancouver is complete without a ride on the ferry. Check out the BC Ferries schedule, head to the Tsawwassen terminal, and in less than an hour and a half you’ll be pulling into Long Harbour ferry terminal on Salt Spring Island. This Gulf Island is one of the most popular for a reason. It has plenty of wineries, cider houses, beaches, and hiking trails. There are also lots of restaurants and cafés in the main town of Ganges, as well as an outdoor farmers’ market featuring tons of local vendors. Due to the small size of Salt Spring Island, you will have no trouble exploring it in one day.
If you’re visiting Burnaby this summer, then be sure to plan a day trip while you’re here. And if you need a place to stay, you’re always welcome at the Best Western Plus Burnaby Hotel & Conference Centre.
